1. Controller

Marco Tissen, Glückaufweg 3, 32423 Minden, Germany. Email: support@getbatzen.app

2. In short

The Batzen app processes your banking data only on your Mac. I never receive it. This website processes only what it needs to deliver its pages, plus your email address if you join the waitlist.

3. This website

3.1 Hosting by Cloudflare

The website runs on Cloudflare, Inc. (101 Townsend St., San Francisco, CA 94107, USA). When you visit, Cloudflare processes technically necessary data: your IP address, date and time, the page requested and your browser's identifier. The purpose is to deliver the site and protect it from attacks. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR; my legitimate interest is a secure, reachable website. A data processing agreement with Cloudflare is in place. Cloudflare may process data in the USA; the transfer is covered by the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and standard contractual clauses. I don't store access logs myself. How long Cloudflare keeps technically necessary data is set out in Cloudflare's privacy policy.

3.2 Counting page views

The site counts visits on the server: it only stores how often a page was viewed on a given day. There are no cookies, no storage in your browser and no stored IP address. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR; my legitimate interest is to see whether there is demand for Batzen.

3.3 Waitlist

Joining is voluntary. Not joining has no downside except that you won't get the launch email.

  • Stored: your email address, your answer to "Where is your current account?" if you gave one, the page language, and when you signed up and confirmed.
  • Purpose: I email you once when Batzen is available in the App Store. No newsletter. The bank answer shows me which banks Batzen needs templates for first.
  • The legal basis is your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR), which you confirm through a link in an email (double opt-in).
  • The list is stored in Cloudflare D1 with an EU location.
  • Emails are sent by Resend (Plus Five Five, Inc., 2261 Market Street #5039, San Francisco, CA 94114, USA) from its EU region. The service's account data, metadata and logs are stored in the USA. A data processing agreement with standard contractual clauses is in place; the transfer is also covered by the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.
  • Withdrawal: at any time through the unsubscribe link in every email, or by writing to support@getbatzen.app. Your address is then deleted. Withdrawal applies to the future.
  • Deletion: unconfirmed sign-ups after 7 days; all addresses after the launch email, at the latest 12 months after signing up.
  • Abuse protection: so that nobody fills the list with other people's addresses, the site limits sign-ups per connection. For this, an irreversible hash of your IP address is stored for at most 24 hours, never the address itself. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR.

3.4 Contact by email

If you write to me, I process your address and message to reply. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR where it concerns your purchase or the app, otherwise Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. Emails are kept with Cloudflare (forwarding) and Google (Gmail). My replies are sent via Resend (see 3.3). Deletion: 6 months after the request is closed, unless a retention duty applies.

4. The Batzen app

  • Batzen processes your bank files, bookings, categories, rules, budgets and questions only on your Mac. I receive none of this data. There is no sign-up, no server, no analytics and no tracking. The app runs in Apple's sandbox without the network permission.
  • Categories and the interpretation of questions can come from Apple's on-device AI (Apple Intelligence). It runs on your Mac; Batzen transfers no data for it.
  • Purchases and restoring a purchase are handled by Apple as a separate controller. Apple's privacy policy applies: https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/
  • Crash reports: Batzen has no upload of its own. If you allowed macOS to share analytics with app developers, Apple may pass crash reports without banking data on to me. You set this in System Settings › Privacy & Security › Analytics & Improvements.

Where your data is and how to delete it

  • Batzen keeps everything in the app's protected area on your Mac, plus up to 10 automatic backups. The data stays there until you delete it.
  • To delete: in Batzen, choose File › Delete Everything… or Settings › Data › Delete Everything…. This removes accounts, bookings, rules, budgets, questions and backups.
  • Important: Moving Batzen to the Trash leaves the data on your Mac. Delete it in Batzen first, or afterwards delete the folder ~/Library/Containers/de.batzen.app in the Finder.
  • Files you export stay where you save them. Batzen doesn't delete them.

5. Your rights

You have the right of access (Art. 15 GDPR), rectification (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17), restriction of processing (Art. 18), data portability (Art. 20) and to object to processing based on Art. 6(1)(f) (Art. 21). You can withdraw consent at any time (Art. 7(3)). Write to support@getbatzen.app.

You can complain to a data protection supervisory authority (Art. 77 GDPR), for example the one responsible for me: the State Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information of North Rhine-Westphalia (LDI NRW).

6. Obligation to provide data, automated decisions

You are not obliged to provide any data. There is no automated decision-making or profiling within the meaning of Art. 22 GDPR.
